1954
Founding of Southside Baptist Church
Southside Baptist Church was founded by a small group of dedicated believers who sought to create a welcoming place of worship for their community.
1965
First Building Expansion
As the congregation grew, the church underwent its first major expansion, adding new classrooms and a larger sanctuary to accommodate the increasing number of members.
1980
Community Outreach Programs
We launched several community outreach programs, including a food pantry and youth mentorship initiatives, to better serve our neighbors in need.
2000
Modernization and Renovation
The church underwent a significant modernization project, updating facilities and incorporating new technologies to enhance worship services and community events.
Our Founding Story
Southside Baptist Church was founded in 1954, when Rev. Hugh Lindsey, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Griffin, recognized the need for a church on the southside. A series of church meetings was held in a tent where the airport walking track is now located. Then the mission met in a vacant store before moving to the present location.
